This is a relatively new title that I’ve not spoken about before just yet, but Zenith is an MMORPG that was on Kickstarter (and actually fully funded in less than 4 hours!), with inspirations drawing from anime like Sword Art Online, Log Horizon, and so on. The game first showed up on my radar last year when it was still being, well just a promise of a game. However it seems now with pre-alpha content being delivered and players being able to participate in the playtest, the game is looking more and more like a reality. Don’t blame me for being a little cynical, there have been countless of games on Kickstarter that never really get their grounding, but it’s nice to see that Zenith is breaking that stigma.
The game states to, “Fight, craft, explore, and live in the first cross platform VR MMO. Forge alliances and friendships in guilds and parties. Participate in epic raids and world events, or go blaze your own path. Become forever immortalized in a world that will become as important as the real one.”
We’re partnering with Improbable and using Spatial OS, the worlds most advanced MMORPG platform, which will enable us to create huge, dynamic, open worlds.
In addition to powering huge worlds, the platform will enable previously impossible things in an MMORPG, like real physics, complex AI, and a landscape that evolves and is shaped by players and NPCs alike. We have plans to fully utilize Spatial OS for features like conquerable player settlements, crafting, and customizable player housing. Zenith will also feature a large, open world, with no loading screens.
The team behind the upcoming game recently teamed up with Freethink to provide a closer in-depth look at what their plans are for Zenith, and a goal where “Its creators are also aiming to address the challenges plaguing online communities. They hope to create an environment in which the positive outcomes in-game can leak into the real world, enacting social change.”
The game has a lot of potential, and we’ve talked about VR MMORPGs that are coming to both PC and Consoles, like Ilysia. So it’s nice to see more and more MMORPGs coming into fruition, especially when they’re made in the West. If you’d like to check out more information about the upcoming MMORPG, Zenith, you can check out their original Kickstarter, which broke VR Kickstarter records by being 625% funded in less than two weeks.
Zenith is set to release on both PCs and Consoles, the official wording on this from their Discord server is:
Zenith is planned to be available for Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, SteamVR, PSVR, and desktop PC, and is intended to be cross platform between as many of these as possible.
There is currently a community wiki that is being developed, with sourced information, transcripts, Q&A, etc. which you can find here.
